Statement on the Declaration of Existence of the Afghan Women Activists Coordinating Body (AWACB) and its Peace and Reconciliation Initiative:
Afghan Women’s Coalition for "Nanawati" (AWC4N)
Today, we proudly declare the establishment of the Afghan Women Activists Coordinating Body (AWACB), marking a historic and pivotal moment in Afghanistan’s long struggle for peace and reconciliation. This body is the united and powerful voice of Afghan women activists, both within Afghanistan and across the globe, standing as a collective force for justice, equality, and human rights. As a beacon of hope for the Afghan people, AWACB is launching the Afghan Women’s Coalition for "Nanawati" (AWC4N)—the first-ever women-led peace and reconciliation initiative rooted in Afghanistan’s sacred tradition of "Nanawati," a practice that calls for seeking refuge and resolving conflicts.
AWC4N is a transformative and groundbreaking initiative aimed at addressing the deep-rooted crises of Afghanistan. By drawing upon the collective strength, wisdom, and resilience of Afghan women, this initiative seeks to:
Historically, Afghan women have been excluded from formal political and peace-building processes, despite bearing the heaviest burdens of war, violence, and displacement. AWACB strongly emphasizes the need to recognize the profound impact that conflict has had on Afghan women and the necessity of including them as key stakeholders in shaping Afghanistan’s future. It is a moral imperative to give Afghan women the voice they deserve in rebuilding the nation.
For decades, Afghan women have quietly advocated for peace within their families and communities. Their exclusion from political discourse and decision-making has not only been an injustice but a missed opportunity to build lasting peace. AWC4N is determined to change this by placing Afghan women at the forefront of the reconciliation process, acknowledging that there can be no sustainable peace in Afghanistan without their full involvement.
Afghan women have consistently demonstrated resilience and leadership in the face of immense challenges. While they have been marginalized in decision-making spaces, they have led efforts in education, healthcare, and humanitarian work in their communities. By stepping into leadership roles, Afghan women will champion justice, equality, and peace, challenging systemic inequalities and addressing pressing issues such as gender-based violence, lack of access to education, and economic exclusion.
AWC4N is more than just a response to Afghanistan’s crisis; it is a profound commitment to challenging the entrenched gender apartheid that Afghan women currently face. In a country where oppressive policies are systematically marginalizing women, this coalition stands as a force for change, seeking to empower Afghan women to lead in peace and reconciliation efforts.
Specific Objectives:
As we embark on this critical journey, AWACB and AWC4N invite all Afghan communities and international allies to join us in building a future of justice, peace, and prosperity. Together, we will ensure that women’s rights, human rights, and social justice form the cornerstone of a new Afghanistan. The time has come to support the Afghan Women’s Coalition for "Nanawati" (AWC4N)—an initiative that not only envisions a peaceful Afghanistan but makes women’s leadership and rights the priority. Only by doing so can we guarantee a future rooted in true justice, peace, and equality.
By supporting AWC4N, we move closer to realizing an Afghanistan built on the pillars of peace, justice, and equality.
